My name is Anthony Jones, and I am running for your District 2 Birmingham School Board. I have lived in the area all my life and am a proud product of the Birmingham school system. I am an alumnus of Woodlawn High, class of ’95 and grew up in Marks Village (Gate City, stand up!).
I want to become your District 2 School Board member to help build up programs like PTA, address security measures and emphasize areas of improvement while getting to know and address the needs of the various households we serve. I want to see more parents involved in school, provide more activities for afterschool care for working parents. I want to revitalize STEM and band programs so kids can enjoy learning while continuing to work on improving academics. We must ignite something in the parents to get them involved which may require assistance in areas of self-improvement. Kids need to see all types of role models in our school systems. Although I am not taking anything away from our women and mothers that fill the gaps, it is time for the men and fathers to step up as well. We don’t know the situation of every household, but I know when we help the parents, we help the kids.
Beyond these reasons, its important to me that my daughters and god-daughter have a good education, and I truly believe that Birmingham school system can do just that with the right people in office. I am committed to helping every child, not only in our district, but also the school system by working effortlessly with the other school board members and the superintendent to better Birmingham City Schools.
